Does this sound familiar to you?

You start looking for a new role online and you…

Start looking for job openings on job boards

Scan some job descriptions that look interesting

Think to yourself: “I could totally do that job”

Then something in the job description or the company news or something else brings up DOUBT

You start thinking…. 🤔

I’m not sure if I would like this role

I’m not sure if I have ALL the qualifications

I’m not sure if I apply if I would even make it to the first interview round

And then, you do nothing. You don’t pursue the role.

You self-eliminate.

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see job seekers make!

Here’s the deal:

Job postings don’t tell you the full story.

Anything you read online about a company doesn’t tell the whole story.

It doesn’t give you enough information from which to make such an important decision.

The purpose of the interview process is not just for the employer to decide if they should hire you.

It’s also for you to decide if you want to work for them 🤯

But you only get the opportunity to learn more about the role and the company via the interview process.

And, in order for that to happen, you need to pursue the opportunities that you’re qualified for.

That’s how I recommend you decide what roles to pursue when you’re actively searching.

✅ Do you have most of the qualifications?
✅ Is the role in a location where  you’d like to work?

Then, pursue it.

Find out more.

Get curious.

Self-eliminating based on partial information slows you down.

It delays you, in finding your next best role.

Speed up your search by actively pursuing roles that you’re qualified for.

Build your pipeline of opportunities from which to choose from.

Follow up with the hiring manager, networking your way in to secure interviews.

Interview with confidence. Be clear on the results you can deliver for the employer.

And decide if this is the right opportunity for you.

You never have to accept an offer that’s not right for you.

Watch as opportunities open up for you.

When you ramp up your pipeline, learn how to market and sell yourself through the hiring process.

And reap the benefits of securing a new role that might have slipped by you had you not pursued it.
