I paid to be terrified. Here’s what I learned. 😱

A couple of weeks ago, I paid good money to scare myself silly. 😂

I‘m an adrenaline junkie. I‘ve even jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

But what I did recently at Toronto’s CN Tower?

In some ways, it was even scarier than skydiving.

And I wasn’t expecting that.

Here’s photographic evidence.  👇

Here’s what I‘ve figured out.

When you skydive, you make ONE big decision. You jump.

But the EdgeWalk?

You spend 30 minutes making decisions that challenge your fear. Over and over again.

Lean backwards over the edge? 😳

Step closer to the edge on legs that feel like Jell-O?

Even though I KNEW I was safe, I was genuinely scared.

(My palms are actually sweating just writing this!)

But here’s what made the difference. I wasn’t doing it alone.

I had the right safety equipment, experienced professionals guiding me, and people alongside me.

Did the fear disappear? Nope.

But I had what I needed to keep moving forward.

And it got me thinking about something I see in job searches all the time.

Searching for your next role isn’t just about making one big decision.

It’s about the dozens of decisions you have to make along the way.

Am I targeting the right roles?

Is my resume actually getting me noticed?

Should I reach out to that hiring manager?

Why am I getting interviews but no offers?

Should I change my strategy or keep going?

And when you’re not getting results, it’s easy to start second-guessing EVERYTHING.

That’s when your confidence starts taking a hit.

Not because you’re any less capable or qualified.

But because you’re putting in the effort without knowing whether you’re making the right moves.

And here’s what I‘ve learned from helping experienced mid-career professionals navigate their job searches.

Confidence doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from having a clear strategy, knowing what to do next, and having the right support along the way.

Knowing which roles to target.

Knowing how to position your experience so employers see your value.

Knowing how to get in front of decision-makers instead of relying solely on online applications.

And knowing how to turn interviews into offers.

That’s what we work on together.

If your job search has left you second-guessing yourself, it’s time to change that.

Let’s look at what’s working, what’s holding you back, and what it would take to get you moving toward your next role.

P.S. Would I do the EdgeWalk again? Absolutely! Even with the fear, it was an incredible experience. And a reminder of what becomes possible when you have the right support.
