A couple of weeks ago, I talked about being called “overqualified.”
But here’s what makes it even worse:
Watching someone younger, with less experience move ahead while you stay stuck.
I’ve heard this story from so many clients.
You’ve been at the company longer.
You have more experience.
You’ve delivered results.
And yet someone in their twenties just got promoted. And you’re still waiting.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Competence alone doesn’t get you promoted. Visibility does.
Your younger colleague isn’t necessarily better.
They’re just more visible.
They speak up in meetings.
They share wins.
They make sure leadership knows what they’re working on.
Meanwhile, you’ve been quietly delivering, assuming your work would speak for itself.
But it doesn’t.
Not in today’s workplace.
This is the same issue that gets you overlooked when interviewing for a new role.
It’s not about what you’ve done.
It’s about how you communicate and position it.
If you’ve been frustrated watching others move ahead while you stay stuck…
It’s not because you’re not good enough.
It’s because you’re not positioning yourself the right way.
👉 Let’s talk about how to get noticed and hired.
