Most mid-career professionals focus on the visible strategies when job searching:
đź’ˇ Updating the resume
đź’ˇ Finetuning LinkedIn
đź’ˇ Networking
đź’ˇ Interview prep
And those do matter.
But there’s one strategy that’s just as important and almost never talked about:
BELIEF
If you don’t fully believe your next role is possible, that doubt shows up in every step you take.
It weakens your outreach.
Dulls your energy in interviews.
Undermines your momentum.
Let me share a quick story.
A new client came to us after working with other coaches.
His resume was polished. LinkedIn looked great. He was networking consistently.
But getting his next step was elusive. Nothing seemed to “work”.
What he wanted felt out of reach somehow.
Not because of his capabilities or expertise.
It was just a significant career move that maybe on paper looked challenging.
So we talked about belief, about possibility and what he truly wanted to achieve for his next move.
He allowed himself to believe it could be possible for him to get exactly what he wanted.
Within about a week, two recruiting firms reached out with roles that were exactly what he wanted.
It wasn’t luck. It wasn’t magic.
It was a belief, backed by intentional action.
If this resonates, here’s where to start:
Be honest about where you are. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you believe this next role is possible? Anything under an 8 is worth strengthening
Decide what you want to believe. Try this: “It’s completely possible for me to move into a more fulfilling, better-paying role in the next 6 months”
Catch your thoughts in the moment. Notice the stories like “No one’s hiring” or “I don’t have the right experience” and gently challenge them
Mindset isn’t fluff. It’s part of the foundation.
You already have the skills and experience.
Now it’s time to build the belief that gets you across the finish line.
If you’re feeling stuck, don’t just update your resume again.
Ask yourself what might shift if you truly believed this was possible.
