Something became very clear yesterday…

Yesterday, I spent an hour with a group of mid-career professionals preparing for the September hiring surge.

And something became very clear from the conversation happening in the chat.

One person wrote:

“Oops…I’m only applying to jobs listed online on job boards.”

Another said:

“I haven’t looked at any sources other than applications.”

And this is something I see all the time.

You can apply to 10 jobs.

You can apply to 50 jobs.

You can apply to 100 jobs.

But if applications are your only source of opportunity, you still have one lead source.

By the end of the training, one attendee summed up one of the biggest takeaways perfectly:

“Sending more resumes doesn’t equal more opportunities.”

Exactly.

The goal of your job search isn’t to send more resumes.

It’s to create more opportunities.

That means building a job search that can draw opportunities from multiple directions: applications, networking, referrals, recruiters, LinkedIn visibility, and the hidden job market.

And this was only one of the five shifts I walked through yesterday.

We also talked about how to get clearer on your target, position your experience around value rather than history, market yourself consistently, and be ready to convert opportunities when they arise.

If you weren’t registered for the training but you’re reading this thinking, I need to see this, reach out using the button below and let me know.

I’ll send you the replay.
