There’s a lot to be said for being proactive with your career…
And if you’re in a “passive” job search, I’m not judging you, I get it. Life is B.U.S.Y. !
But because of the work I do, I see really great professionals suffer the consequences of unexpected and at times devastating career events.
😢 The professional who got suddenly and unexpectedly laid off after 16 years with the same company. She loved her job and the news was a total shock.
😳 The one who joined a new company less than two years ago and had a rotation of 4 different managers, with the latest one a complete, control freak micro-manager.
😩 The high-powered executive with a tech company where the culture progressively turned into a Hunger Games fiasco.
In all cases, things that were once good, took a turn for the not so good.
It’s not all doom and gloom.
We’re seeing clients generate interviews and secure offers right now.
Even multiple offers (helped a client just yesterday with this!)
But one thing’s for sure:
Being proactive pays off
When you’re proactive, you can be ready in case an unforeseen career crisis emerges.
You can also be ready for when opportunity knocks.
I realize it’s easier said than done. It requires time and focus.
But there’s nothing worse than scrambling and being unprepared in a crisis.
And nothing better than being ready when someone asks you for your resume because they think you’d be a great fit for a role they need to fill ASAP.
What does it look like to be proactive?
✅ It’s having a modern, updated mid-career resume that allows for your experience to truly shine
✅ It’s having an optimized LinkedIn profile (and if you’re not sure what that should look like, I can guarantee your profile needs an upgrade)
✅ Having fun building and nurturing your network (yes, it can be fun!)
