As the year winds down, it’s natural for many of us to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and what’s ahead for the coming year.
But if you’re like many professionals, it’s easy to focus more on what didn’t happen 😔
… the promotion that slipped away… the role you really wanted but didn’t land… or the opportunities that felt just out of reach.
What if we flipped the script?
Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good buzzword—it’s a powerful tool to boost your mindset and your career.
Reflecting on what you did achieve this year can help you:
- Build confidence by acknowledging your progress.
- Create clarity about what truly matters to you.
- Lay a foundation for bigger, bolder moves in the year ahead.
I’m in it myself right now.
I’m so grateful for so many things that happened in 2024!
The amazing clients and professionals I get to work with, the creative outputs, the love, connection and time together with family and friends and the wonderful experiences I had in most areas of my life.
And like most people, there are other areas where I fell short of my goals (like I didn’t do another 10K race, my body wasn’t on board with that one this year 🤦🏼♀️)
So here’s what I’m doing right now to make sure I don’t lose sight of all the amazingness of 2024… to truly celebrate it, to truly feel gratitude and set the stage for the year to come.
I invite you to try it, it’s pretty powerful!
- Write down all of the moments and achievements that you’re proud of from this year, including areas outside of your career, big and small.
- Identify at least one person who helped you achieve something meaningful, and send them a quick thank-you note or message.
- Identify at least one person whom you’ve helped and feel into the gift of being willing and able to lend a helping hand to another human in need.
- Think about what these wins say about your strengths—and how you can build on them in 2025.
Gratitude isn’t about glossing over challenges or thinking positively 24/7.
It’s about recognizing the resilience, effort, and growth you’ve experienced, in good and in tough times.
From that place, setting goals for the coming year is more inspiring, and brings more joy!
