I’m doing everything right. Why isn’t it working?

I hear some version of this all the time:

“I’m applying. I’m networking. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to be doing. Why is nothing moving?”

And I get why that’s so frustrating.

Because when you’re putting serious time into your job search and getting very little back, it’s easy to assume the problem is the market.

And yes, this is a challenging market.

But that’s also why doing more of what isn’t working isn’t the answer.

I often see experienced professionals applying to more jobs, tweaking their resume again, reaching out to more people, spending more hours on LinkedIn…

But when we look underneath all that activity, there’s usually something missing.

A clear target.

Strong positioning.

A resume and LinkedIn profile that make their value obvious.

A networking strategy that goes beyond telling people they’re looking.

And a plan for reaching opportunities beyond the job boards.

That’s the difference between being busy in your job search and building momentum.

At your level of experience, you don’t need to do everything.

You need the right pieces working together.

So if you’ve been working hard at your search but aren’t seeing the interviews or opportunities you expected, I’d ask yourself this:

Do I have a winning strategy, or do I have a collection of job-search activities?

There’s a big difference.
